Former CAF Champions League winners, Al Ahly are looking forward to making the biggest history in the CAF Champions League as they seek to overturn a 0-5 deficit.

Al Ahly move quarterfinal clash back to Alexandria

The Eight times champions of Africa’s most prestigious club competition were thrashed 5-0 in Pretoria last week by Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the Quarter finals.

Themba Zwane, Wayne Arendse, Ricardo Nascimento, Gaston Sirino and
Phakamani Mahlambi all found the back of the net for Sundowns at the
Lucas Moripe Stadium, in what was a humiliating defeat for the Red
Devils.

The red devils of Egypt will play host to the Brazilians of South Africa at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

Kickoff is 13:00 GMT.

Al Ahly boss apologises for embarrassing loss

The players, coaches and fans of the most decorated African club are leaving no stone on turned in order to overturn the scoreline in the second leg in Alexandria.

Ahly’s coach, Martin Lasarte laments on the inability of his side to score one or two goals in the first leg.
“It’s going to be tough but very interesting because I feel we could have scored more goals at home had we buried all our chances. What’s more important though is the fact that we created these chances and I believe we can still create more in Egypt because it’s still crucial for us to score at least one goal away.”

Despite their huge advantage, Sundowns have vowed not to lose concentration and underrate the Egyptians ahead of the clash.

The aggregate winner will face either Wydad Casablanca (Morocco) or Horoya AC (Guinea) for a place in this year’s final.

Ghana international striker Caleb Ekuban netted and assisted a goal for Trabzonspor in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening at the Generali Arena.

The 25-year-old pulled one back for the Turkish Super Lig side with a fine strike in the 84th minute after Czech Republican Sparta had taken a 2-0 lead.

The 2019 AFCON Ghana forward unleashed a first-time shot from inside the box and beat the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner to halve the deficit for his side.

Former Ghana U17 forward Benjamin Tetteh started upfront for Sparta Prague in the game but he was booked on the 55th minute mark and replaced 10 minutes before the end of the game.

Ekuban then assisted Norwegian Alexander Sorloth to level the scoring for the visitors.

Ekuban missed Ghana’s penalty kick at the continental showpiece that resulted in the Black Stars’s exit from the tournament.
